Calgary’s Osborne Interim Management has announced the appointment of Garth Hodges as a senior advisor, bolstering its strategic capabilities with one of agriculture’s most seasoned global leaders.

The company offers business management services to help organizations through transitions. Notably, Managing Partner Mark Olson recently served as interim executive director for Western Crop Innovations.

With more than 35 years of executive experience spanning Canada, the U.S., Germany, France, and South Africa, Hodges brings a rare dual strength to the Osborne team: scientific depth and commercial firepower. From leading multi-billion-dollar seed businesses to orchestrating major mergers and acquisitions, his track record positions him as a high-value asset for clients navigating growth, change, and transformation, the company said.

Hodges’ career includes top-tier roles with Bayer Crop Science and BASF, where he was instrumental in managing multi-continent operations and leading key initiatives. Notably, he played a central role in the €7.6 billion divestment of Bayer’s seed assets to BASF, managing everything from deal scoping and data room prep to management presentations and post-merger integration.

His expertise spans the seed, biotech, and crop protection sectors, with a focus on helping companies make tough decisions, unlock growth potential, and scale sustainably. Whether developing go-to-market strategies, securing international licensing agreements, or coaching leadership teams through structural shifts, Hodges is known for bringing clarity and executional rigor to every mandate.

His impact has been felt across the industry. He built seed businesses exceeding $1 billion in annual sales, grew revenues from $10 million to over $150 million through strategic alliances with firms like Cargill and Monsanto, and captured over 60% market share in the North American canola seed market. He’s also served as a trusted advisor to venture-backed agri-tech startups, guiding them on market readiness, scaling, and exit strategies.

He also rose to the rank of 2-star lieutenant in the South African Defence Force, gaining unique experience in perseverance and leadership – recognized by receiving the Chief of the Army’s Commendation upon completion of military service.
