Ahead of the World Seed Congress 2026 in Lisbon, the new Legacy Project aims to create lasting local impact by uniting the seed sector, students and civil society to grow crops for donation to Portugal’s National Food Bank. As preparations continue for the World Seed Congress 2026 in Lisbon, a new initiative is being launched to create a lasting local impact beyond the event itself.

The Legacy Project will bring together the seed sector, students and civil society around a shared goal: growing crops for donation to the National Food Bank and supporting local food solidarity efforts.

The project is being implemented in partnership with SolidarISA, IAAS Portugal – Associação Internacional de Estudantes de Agricultura, ANSEME, and with support from the Ministerie van Landbouw, Visserij, Voedselzekerheid en Natuur and the Netherlands Agricultural Network. Students and volunteers will cultivate 1.6 hectares of land at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, producing crops such as radishes, turnips and turnip greens. In the coming seasons, the initiative aims to show how collaboration across the seed sector can deliver meaningful benefits at the local level.

Seed companies, institutions and partners interested in supporting the initiative, including through in-kind contributions such as seeds, are invited to get in touch, according to an ISF LinkedIn post.
